Product Recalls

product recall2014 was a record year for product recalls. From air bags that could send shards of metal toward passengers in cars to chicken that carried potentially deadly bacteria, millions of items sold to consumers last year were later called back by manufacturers.

Some of the biggest recalls of the year were for cars, trucks and related products. In fact, nearly 64 million vehicles were part of 803 recalls in 2014, almost three times the number recalled the previous year.

While some recalls were for relatively minor problems, others were for deadly malfunctions. 27 million vehicles were recalled by General Motors for faulty ignition switches that have been linked to dozens of deaths. 34 million vehicles were recalled because Takata airbags can deploy incorrectly and send shards of metal toward occupants. At least 8 deaths have been linked to the airbags. 1 million Graco car seats were recalled for poor belt buckles.

Of course, it isn’t just recalled cars that can cause injuries or deaths. Baby cribs, toys and mini blinds are among other products that have been recalled after it was determined they posed a serious safety threat.

Tragically, in some situations, there have been questions about whether the manufacturer knew their product was faulty. Those injured or the loved ones of those killed can only ask themselves how their lives would be different if manufacturers had been honest about defects in their products.

Have you or a loved one been injured by a product that was later recalled? You may be entitled to compensation. However, some states have a statute of limitations that could affect your ability to be reimbursed for medical bills, loss of income and pain and suffering.
